OUR STORY
How it All Started
Crossroads began as a home Bible study in 1976. This Bible study was started by Pastor Tom and Maryellen Stipe in their basement and has grown into Crossroads Church of Denver, a thriving congregation in the west metro area. Another half-dozen churches in the Denver region have been birthed out of God’s work at Crossroads. In-depth Bible teaching, contemporary worship, bold evangelism, and outreach continue to be the cornerstones of Crossroads’ approach to ministry.
Pastor Tom Stipe

Tom & MaryEllen Stipe

"I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness" (Psalm 17:15).
Tom Stipe was the founding pastor of Crossroads Church of Denver. He was a multi-talented musician, songwriter, producer, pastor, evangelist, worship leader, husband, father and grandfather. He was a Jesus Music pioneer and played a huge role in the growth of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa (CCCM), the formation of Maranatha! Music, the foundation of the Vineyard, and he was the founding Pastor of Crossroads Church of Denver.
Tom was born and raised in Southern California and felt the call to ministry at an early age. At the age of eighteen he became the youth director at a Methodist church. During this time, the Jesus Movement in Costa Mesa was growing and provided the opportunity for Tom to serve on the pastoral staff at CCCM under the guidance of Pastor Chuck Smith. It was at CCCM where God used Tom's musical talents and gift of teaching the Scriptures to play a pivotal role in the growth of the Jesus Movement.
While traveling in the late '70s, Tom felt the Holy Spirit lead him to move to Colorado where he planted a church under the Calvary Chapel banner in a western suburb of Denver. Over the course of the 1980's, Crossroads grew to approximately 7,500 members and became the largest church in the Denver Metro area. Tom's gift of expository teaching and his humorous insights helped him to become a prominent figure in the community as the Deputy Chaplin for the Adams County Sheriff's Department, and six years as the team Chaplin of the NFL Denver Broncos.
On December 30, 2020, our founding pastor, our teacher, our mentor, and our co-laborer in Christ, Pastor Tom, walked into the presence of the Lord. He left behind his wife Maryellen, three adult children, countless number of people who came into relationship with Jesus through his ministry, and many more people that he discipled and encouraged in the faith. He left behind a legacy of faithfulness and service. If you would like to hear more about Tom Stipe and the history of Crossroads, visit our "Foundations of a Legacy" website.

Pastor Adam Gomez

Adam & Justine Gomez

Adam Gomez is the current Senior Pastor at Crossroads Church of Denver and is a native of Colorado who grew up in the Chaffee Park neighborhood of North Denver. His teenage years were filled with fist fights, house parties, and heavy alcohol and drug use. In 1994, he was involved in an alcohol-related car accident that nearly cost his life. In November of 1995, God dramatically changed his life forever. Soon thereafter, he began attending Crossroads Church of Denver where he immediately got involved in Youth Ministry.
After joining the staff at Crossroads, Adam enrolled at Calvary Chapel Bible College and formed Changed Forever Ministries; an evangelistic ministry that reached inner city youth and the incarcerated. As an evangelist, Adam has led teams to the streets of Mexico City, Las Vegas, San Diego, Los Angeles, Denver, and Gadsden, Alabama. As a youth speaker, he was been invited to speak to young people in Public Schools, Prisons, Correctional Facilities, and several Youth Groups, such as The G.A.N.G. at Victory Outreach and U-turn Youth Ministries.
As a pastor and church-planter, Adam has planted and nurtured churches for both Calvary Chapel and The Foursquare Denomination. Adam has trained several pastors and church-planters, serving as part of a nation-wide team that created a church-planter’s training and curriculum called Church Planters Intensive. Adam has had the privilege of working alongside Denver's Police Department, Colorado's Department of Corrections, and other respected agencies. Adam and his wife, Justine, reside in the Denver-metropolitan area with their three adult children and grandchildren.
