A Little About Baby Dedications

What does it mean to dedicate your baby to the Lord?
A baby dedication is a public proclamation declaring your intent, with God’s help, to raise your child in a Christ-centered home and to consecrate your child to the Lord for His purposes.

Our Biblical example of this is taken from the life of Hannah and her son Samuel.
“For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to Him. Therefore I have lent him to the Lord, as long as he lives, he is lent to the Lord.”
1 SAMUEL 1: 27-28

Parents are also making a commitment to take responsibility for their child’s spiritual upbringing as commanded in the Old Testament.
“And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart, You shall teach them diligently to your children, and you shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” DEUTERONOMY 6:7
